THE CALL OF THE WILD THE writer was born at Colton enjoyed his youth ancestry manhood Colton is situated in the Foothills of the Adiiundac Eston the banks of the beautiful Raquette River, by far the largest in the state save only the Hudson, and which carries to the sea the waters of Tupper, Raquette, and Long lakes, and outlets a large portion of the waters of the Adirondacks.
In this village in the short distance of a quarter mile the river falls ninety-two feet, in a succession of cascades and roaring chutes, producing a scenic effect of wonderful beauty, impressive power, and grandeur. The power is now being converted into electricity and wired to dis- tant points to carry the burdens and perform the labors of many communities in the onrush of our intense civilization.
